Valley of Flowers Trek
A UNESCO meadow in full bloom & the glacial lake of Hemkund Sahib
Trip overview
The Valley of Flowers is a 87.5 kmΒ² alpine valley in the Western Himalaya that the Forest Research Institute only properly documented in the 1930s, and UNESCO inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 2005 β yet it remains one of India's least-visited natural wonders, open to trekkers for barely four months a year. From late July through August, the valley floor turns into a continuous carpet of wildflowers: blue poppies, cobra lilies, brahma kamal, and over 300 other species, set against glaciers and 6,000 m peaks. This 7-day journey takes you from Delhi up through Haridwar and Joshimath to Govindghat, then on foot β there is no other way in β through Ghangaria to the valley itself, with a side trek to Hemkund Sahib, a glacial lake at 4,329 m ringed by seven mountain peaks and one of Sikhism's most important high-altitude shrines. We move at a comfortable pace, acclimatize properly, and stay in clean, simple guesthouses throughout. This is a trek for travelers who want real wilderness without needing technical climbing experience.
