Dharamshala, Bir & the Triund Trek
Tibetan monasteries, paragliding skies, and a starlit night on the Triund ridge
Trip overview
This week-long circuit weaves together the three most loved corners of Himachal's Kangra Valley — McLeod Ganj (the Dalai Lama's home-in-exile), Dharamkot (a hillside village of cafés, yoga, and long afternoons), and Bir-Billing (the paragliding capital of Asia). At its heart sits the classic Triund Trek: a gentle but stunning overnight hike up to a grassy ridge at 9,400 ft, where the Dhauladhar range feels close enough to touch. We trek in a small group with two experienced local guides, stay in a proper high-altitude campsite, and wake up to one of the most photographed sunrises in India. Designed for travelers who want real Himalayan trekking without a hardcore expedition, and who love slow cafés as much as mountain trails.
Trip highlights
- Overnight Triund Trek (9,400 ft) with sunrise over the Dhauladhars
- Tea with Tibetan monks at Namgyal & Tsuglagkhang monasteries, McLeod Ganj
- Slow café mornings in Dharamkot — banana pancakes, yoga, pine views
- Tandem paragliding over the Kangra Valley from Billing (weather permitting)
- Kangra Fort, Norbulingka Tibetan arts institute & the 9th-century Baijnath temple
